Experiencing Freshfields' Brussels Office
My placement in the firm’s Brussels office was an incredible experience! Everyone was welcoming and supportive, and there were many interns my age so there was always someone to talk to. I got to sit in the firm’s internationally renowned ACT team, looking at the work they were doing for a project I’d been introduced to during my time in London. It was fascinating to see the continuation of a transaction past the corporate elements, and get an insight into the competition law aspects (especially since this is often a crucial part of a successful deal) as well as gain first-hand experience of how the teams in different offices work together. One of the highlights of the week was a trip to the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg with my trainee buddy and trainees from other firms who were on secondment in Brussels. I got to witness a hearing and meet the formidable Eleanor Sharpston (Advocate-General) and Judge Forrester. And of course, I did loads of sightseeing in my spare time, like walking in the Grand Place and visiting the beer museum! This was an amazing way to finish my vacation scheme and I’m very grateful to the graduate recruitment team (shout-out to Debbie) for organising it!
