Our career events are some of the most important parts of the York Law Society. They offer members an amazing opportunity to broaden their career opportunities and gain a deeper insight into our sponsoring firms and their practices. We aim for 2024/25 to be the greatest academic year yet and hope that students will feel more knowledgeable about their desired career paths.

NOTICE: Society Almuni Event in Central London

Applications can still be made for our 2024/25 Alumni Event. This is the first careers event of the new academic year, and will be held in Central London on September 6th 2024. It is a fantastic networking opportunity with barristers, solicitors, paralegals, in-house lawyers and a few alumni who took non-legal career paths after their degrees at York. This will allow you to get a well-rounded view of life after York and what different legal careers may entail.

Flagging system for events

For the coming academic year, The Law Society is introducing a new system to ensure consistent attendance and mitigate low turnout for important events. Essentially it is a system whereby if you have purchased one our free and number limited tickets for events, such as a panel, and you do not attend without letting us know, you will be flagged within our database of attendees. If you are flagged more than twice, you will be prevented from coming to the next similar free and number capped event.

We will be understanding of mitigating circumstances in which you may not be able to attend at short notice, but in all other circumstances we will require you to inform us prior to the event so your ticket may be given to someone else. This is to ensure a fair way to make sure everyone that wants to come can come as we always have less tickets than members.
